You may be reading this page because you are concerned about your cat’s weight or if a member of our clinical team has recommended that your cat would benefit from shedding a few pounds.
You may be daunted by the prospect of beginning a weight-loss programme for your cat. Perhaps you’re worried that reducing your cat’s food, having to change your cat’s food, or just generally having to deprive them of something that they enjoy may damage your treasured relationship with your cat, but please don’t worry our qualified nursing team are here to help!
What to expect
During a Slimming Club appointment, your nurse will start by gathering key information about your cat’s current diet, lifestyle, and activity levels. They will also measure your cat’s blood pressure, as high blood pressure and increased weight often go hand in hand. Using this information, the nurse will calculate what your cat’s daily calorific maintenance requirement is.
To support weight loss, your cat will need to consume fewer calories than this requirement, which can be achieved either by increasing activity levels or reducing caloric intake. This is where your Slimming Club nurse will be invaluable! They will create a personalized weight loss plan for your cat and share a wealth of helpful tips and tricks to make the process smoother and more effective.

Clients who have brought their cat to Slimming Club appointments have not only seen successful weight loss for their cat but have often reported increased positive interactions with them. Owners spend more time playing with their cat, which aids the weight loss journey, and gradually they see their cat’s quality of life improve.
Once your cat is on the programme, we will schedule regular follow-up appointments so your cat can be re-weighed and your nurse can make any necessary adjustments to their plan, as well as answering any further questions you may have.
