Referrals

High-quality, medicine-led cat referrals in Oxfordshire and beyond
We’ve been supporting cat owners and the vets who care for them throughout Oxfordshire and beyond for 20 years, using the expertise of our cat-only team to provide affordable referral services and advice to complement general practice veterinary care.

Now we’re taking our milestone anniversary as an opportunity to relaunch our referral service, with a renewed focus on the areas where we can provide the most value.

We are proudly independent, locally owned and clinically led, and our focus is clear – to provide high-quality, medicine-led feline referral support in a collaborative, accessible and affordable setting.

Our clinical team is led by RCVS Specialist in Feline Medicine Martha Cannon

We have never been, and do not intend to become, a multi-disciplinary referral hospital.

Instead, we focus on what we do best – thoughtful, specialist-level medical care for complex and chronic feline patients.

As we relaunch Oxford Cat Clinic in our 20th year, we would like to thank all of our referring practices for the trust and collaboration you have shown us, and look forward to continuing these relationships for many years to come while meeting new friends and colleagues too.

Why we’re relaunching our cat-only referral service

We are equipped to investigate and manage stable medical cases and day-case referrals, and where helpful, we are happy to provide ongoing shared or full management for chronic patients.

Our service is designed to offer specialist-led medicine that is focused, collaborative and appropriately priced, making referral support accessible for a wider range of clients while maintaining high clinical standards.

Areas that we focus on include:

  • Chronic renal and urinary disease
  • Chronic gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatic disorders
  • Upper respiratory disease and chronic cough
  • Chronic anaemia
  • Infectious diseases
  • Chronic endocrinopathies
  • Cats with multiple co-morbidities
  • Geriatric feline medicine

For cases requiring intensive inpatient care or 24/7 referral-level support, we are always pleased to discuss the case and will recommend alternative centres where we feel another facility would better serve your client and their cat.

We genuinely value partnership working and are always available for informal case discussions, even if referral is not ultimately required.

Who we are – Martha, Mel and the team

Dr. Martha Cannon

Specialist in Feline Medicine

Graduating from Cambridge in 1992, Martha worked in small animal practice in Canterbury and was instrumental in establishing the Radio-Iodine Treatment Centre for hyperthyroid cats, before taking the position of Feline Advisory Bureau Resident in Feline Medicine at Bristol Veterinary School. In 2004 Martha was awarded the Diploma in Small Animal Medicine (feline), and is one of only 6 veterinary surgeons in the UK to hold this qualification. She is a recognised Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Feline Medicine and is regularly invited to contribute to CPD meetings and to veterinary and veterinary nursing journals. Martha is available to see many of the more complex cases and is particularly involved with the referral caseload. Martha lives in Oxford , sharing her home with her beautiful cat Locky.

Melanie Weatherall

Director and Owner

Prior to having the privilege of taking on the ownership of the Oxford Cat Clinic I worked alongside Martha and Caroline (the original founders of the Clinic) as their Practice Manager for 10 years. As a dedicated pet owner myself I understand first-hand the importance of building a strong, trusting bond between veterinary teams and their clients.

I am passionate about maintaining the Clinic as an independent veterinary practice and take great pride in ensuring both cats and their owners receive exceptional care and service. I am always keen to hear about your experience with us and welcome your feedback on what you love most about the Clinic.
